37th Annual Metro Cup Regatta

3/8/2017

This past weekend, the team traveled across town to compete in the 37th Annual Metro Cup regatta. While the events on the men's collegiate schedule were limited to only the Varsity 4+ and Novice 4+, this did not deter the team from posting fast results.

In the Men's Varsity 4+, Central Florida Rowing entered two crews against Rollins' single entry. The Varsity "A" boat dominated the race and crossed the line first with a time of 6:52. Rollins followed behind in second with a time of 7:14. The Central Florida "B" boat rounded out the race with a 7:58.
Men's Varsity 4+
CFR (A)         6:52
Rollins           7:14
CFR (B)         7:58
The team showcased its depth in the Men's Novice 4+ event with its three entries. Rollins entered one crew in the event. The mixed lineups provided competitive racing through the first 1000 meters. The announcer raved as the field was four boats across, bow ball to bow ball.  However, Rollins was able to pull away and secure the first place finish.
   Men's Novice 4+
Rollins           7:46.4
CFR (A)         7:56.6
CFR (B)         8:14.2
CFR (C)         8:37.6

Boat Dedication

This year's regatta featured an extremely memorable boat dedication, in honor of Coach Dennis Kamrad. Generations of rowers, past and present, gathered to pay homage to Coach Kamrad. As the father of rowing in Central Florida, his endowments to the community were recognized, and a new Vespoli 8+  was christened. The new shell will compliment the UCF NCAA women's team's campaign to 3-peat as AAC conference champions, and climb the NCAA tables.

Spring Break Training

The team is now preparing for spring break training, which will span from March 11-March 18. The team will undergo two-a-day practices and utilize this critical period of training to prepare for their next competition - the John Hunter regatta on March 25.
