Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience to join Central Florida Rowing?
You do not need any experience to join the team. In fact, most of our rowers start with no experience. If you like challenges and working hard as a member of a team sport, rowing might be for you!
What Do You Look For in a Rower?
There are two positions in rowing: the rower and the coxswain.
There are many qualities that make up a good rower; some of the most important being determination, competitiveness, and the drive to succeed. Rowing is a strength-endurance explosive sport.
Coxswains are competitive individuals who can take charge of a situation and have the desire to lead and motivate themselves and other individuals. They are in charge of steering the boat, challenging the crew, and implementing the practice and race plans. They are a large part of what makes the team successful. The coxswain is crucial in the sport of rowing. On race day, they are in charge and make all the calls.
What is required to join?
You have to be taking one (1) or more credit hours at the university of Central Florida to be eligible to be an athlete on the team.
Is This A Varsity Sport?
Central Florida Rowing is the only opportunity for men's rowing on campus. Although in name we are a club sport, men's rowing is not an NCAA-sanctioned sport, so the highest level of rowing at most universities is in fact club rowing. We do have both a men's team, and a women's team, and accept athletes of all genders. We consider ourselves to be student-athletes, and we represent the Knights on a national level.
